T minus 45

I'm 45 days out from my first half marathon.  What have I been doing lately to prepare for it?

That would be nothing.

Zero

Zilch

Nada

I haven't run in the past three weeks.  Partly because I haven't felt like it and partly because I've been busy.

With back to school and the start of fall soccer, the days have been a blur and I'm feeling overwhelmed at trying to keep up with two different school schedules (my son is now is high school), practices, homework, housework, yadda yadda.

So yeah, I'm starting to feel stressed about the half.  I know I need to run but I just can't find the time and when I have the time I don't feel like it.

I think I'm a little burnt out.  I've decided that after the half I'm not going to race for a while and just run for the fun of it.  No training plan to follow and no pressure to run.  I also need to get back to the gym or cancel my membership.  I'd really like to take yoga classes because my legs have been feeling tight.  And I'd love to start spin classes again.

One thing at a time though.  I need to tackle these 13.1 miles in 45 days, get my necklace and then I can relax.

  1. You still have enough time to get back on track. It's great that you can recognize burnout and do the right thing.

  2. I got this way, too. You'll break through. Just run for fun! If you have to walk, you have to walk. Just enjoy yourself. Who are you racing anyway? I have to keep reminding myself of that as I approach my 10k on no training. LOL!

(PS: Left you an award on my blog.)

  7. You'll be fine - just take it easy, one mile at a time & remember it's for fun. Fall/winter is a great time for yoga. Feels soooo good to loosen up.

  8. You will be fine in that Half Marathon. Just try not to race it, and simply enjoy the experience. And get that necklace! :)

  9. Every story I've seen recently, where people take an extended break, they come back stronger than ever.
You're gonna have a great race despite limited running.

  10. Isn't it odd that because you're so busy running around, you don't have time to run?!

  11. You got this. There is plenty of time left. It's not like you are starting from scratch either. Sure, three weeks without running is... well, three weeks without running but you've been running for a while so I think you might just need to get out there a couple of times for you to sort of rediscover the excitement.

  12. I wouldn't worry too much about it. If all else fails you can walk 13 miles, right? :)

That's what I told my out of shape brother at least that recently ran a half with me. He did it in about 2 hours 45 minutes. Not bad.

  13. Holy crap! You sound similar to me....LOL. Hey, I've run halfs with little training and still survived. You will too. Besides, 45 days is still a long enough period of time for you to get ready. Good luck...miss you in bloggerland, btw. :-)

  15. You will be just fine! It is such a fun race - don't put any pressure on yourself. Just go for the chocolate, the hot firemen and of course, the necklace. I know you could could out and do it tomorrow no problem.

  16. Runner's World had an article about 6wk half-marathon training plan at the beginning of the year. I don't remember the details but it looked ok.
