Maybe that wasn't such a good idea

So last night I decided it would be fun to Google some pictures of previous Nike Women's Marathons.  I also came upon some race recaps with some really helpful information.

I found some really cool pics of the starting line and learned that it'll probably take me a good 15-20 minutes to cross the start line once the race officially begins.  Good info to know.

I'm also considering staying in the city on Saturday night because logistically it will just be easier.  I'm worried about parking and since we (husband and I) don't know the city that well, staying overnight will lessen the stress on race morning because we won't have to wake up extra early and worry about finding our way through the city and then finding parking.

I'm thinking I want to take pics during the race because who knows if I will ever run it again.  Too many fun things out there on the course that I will want to remember but how will I do this?  I can use my iPhone which I will use for music but taking it in and out of my ifitness belt might get old after a while.  I have a small digital camera but it's kinda old and not as compact as newer models.  Need to think about this.

After seeing pictures of the water stations, I've decided to carry my water bottle.  The water stations looked a little chaotic and crowded and I don't really want to stop and wait for the drink and then stop to drink out of the cup.  At least with my handheld I can drink and run at the same time.  I'm thinking of doing a 50/50 mix of a sport drink and water.

Hills.  Umm, yeah, hence the title of this post.  There are lots and there are some steep ones.  I would rather not know this but too late now.  Apparently miles 11-13 are on an incline.  Great.  Can't wait for that.  Most of the recaps I read proclaimed this race to be their toughest ever, tougher than even the SF Marathon.

Sweet.

  1. you are going to do great out there, just keep thinking "tiffanys, tiffanys!" and it will pull you to the finish line ;)

i have driven in both years and parked within walking distance to the start line and it was really easy. if you want any help with that feel free to email me... but if you want to stay thats great too because you can sleep in more, less stress, etc. check on hotels now though because thats a big race!

very excited for you, you will love it. this race has some great energy!

  3. I've never thought about google-ing a race before I ran it...that seems like a very good idea! Just keep thinking about the little teal box!

  4. Yeah, staying close by is clutch. Do it.
Glad to see you're carrying the water bottle, it really can be a little life/sanity saver.
Given my experience taking photos in my last race and querying Julie for her tips, I say, while you're spending money, buy a new small (optionally waterproof) camera with a sports/action mode. I'd spend around $100 considering it becomes an "investment."
And you'll be fine on the hills with your walking strategy, though it will be up to you to distinguish between HILL and INCLINE.
